Saint-Petersburg have recently hosted an international forum where heads of Russian cement manufacturing companies proposed to introduce a mandatory certification for cement of foreign origin in the CU.

For the moment Customs Union legislation stipulates for voluntary declaration of cement by importers. Not once that has caused an appearance of poor quality product on the market, mainly from Iran, Turkey, Lithuania and Latvia. Manufacturers from the above and other countries carried out an inspection of only one lot and after that continued supplies with low quality cement without declaration of conformity.

Experts have analyzed the proposal by Russian manufacturers and come to the conclusion that such requirement should make a difference on the RF and the CU market. Quality of building material will improve which will surely have an impact on the quality of construction services. Moreover, the experts think that the new proposal will provide Russian manufacturers with an opportunity to work in the competitive environment, so cement importers should follow the news in order to respond to certification introduction timely.
