On April 25 2015 new hygiene and sanitation standards entered into force. They concern the production and use of radio luminescent lamps as well as goods produced with their use. These previously developed requirements were registered by the Ministry of Justice of Russia on April 10 by the Decree №91 of the Chief State Sanitary Physician of the Russian Federation (sanitary regulations and standards (SanPiN) 2.6.1.3239-14).

An interesting characteristic of the new standards is that they are mandatory for self-employed entrepreneurs as well as for legal entities and for citizens of the Russian Federation who use radio luminescent lamps with gaseous tritium or products that were made with the use of such light sources.

More on the requirements of the new sanitary regulations and standards (SanPiN)

The new requirements specified in the sanitary regulations and standards (SanPiN) take into account numerous characteristics of the production and use of this type of lamps. More specifically, they set the rules for: their identification, drawing up of technical documentation, storage and transportation, operation, recycling and so on.

It should be pointed out that lamps with gaseous tritium are rather frequently used in our country. The main advantage of this type of radio luminescent lamps is their capacity to operate self-sufficiently for a long time. They are mainly used in keychains, flashlights and wristwatches.
